Schedule

8:00am - 8:30am Introduction and Background

8:30 am - 8:45 am Evidence Based Physiology and Pathophysiology of neural tissue

8:45 am - 10:00 am Evidence based neural tissue examination upper quarter (lecture and lab)

9:30 am - 10:45 am Evidence based treatment of neural tissue dysfunction (manual therapy/exercise)

10:45 am - 11:00 am Break

11:00 am - 11:45 am Evidence based neural tissue examination lower quarter (lecture and lab)

11:45 am - 12:45 pm Evidence based treatment of neural tissue dysfunction (manual therapy/exercise)

12:45 pm - 1:15pm Clinical Reasoning in Case Examples

Neural tissue can be a significant treatment modifier in the care of the upper/lower quarter conditions.  Despite this, it is often an overlooked aspect of management in clinical intervention.  In this course and the associated pre-course material, we will review the evidence assessment of neurodynamics of both the upper and lower quarter and discuss both well established treatment paradigms as well as some overlooked clinical conditions that often have neurodynamic contributions - all using the foundation of the best available evidence.  We will utilize both didactic and hands on lab learning. Pre-course readings will be utilized to condense the didactic portion of the course.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe neural tissue anatomy and physiology.

2. Describe upper/lower quarter impairment differential diagnosis

3. Perform a thorough simulated examination of upper/lower quarter Neurodynamic impairments.

4. Perform simulated indirect treatment procedures for upper/lower quarter Neurodynamic impairments.

5. Perform simulated direct treatment procedures for upper/lower quarter neurodynamic impairments.

6. Apply clinical reasoning in creating an appropriate POC for patients with upper/lower quarter neurodynamic impairments.

Specific topics to be covered include:

  • Evidence based neurodynamic assessment (upper/lower quarter)

  • Irritability assessment related to neurodynamics

  • Evidence based common conditions with neurodynamic contribution - upper/lower quarter radiculopathy, axial spinal pain, peripheral tissue pain (achilles, medial knee, plantar heel, shoulder, lateral elbow etc.)

  • Evidence based manual therapy interventions for upper/lower quarter neurodynamic dysfunction

  • Evidence based exercise interventions for upper/lower quarter neurodynamic dysfunction

  • Interactive case studies highlighting clinical reasoning and decision making.

All presented within the 3 Fellows concise 5 hour format to maximize your time and learning.
